Made in Zhongfu: The Enlightenment from “Skai Isyourgod”
Good morning, teachers and fellow students,
I’m Ma Yanzhe, and this is my good friend Yang Zhuoheng. We are students from Class 4 Grade 9. Today, we want to share a story about how a Chinese rapper changed our life and helped us find our own voice.

Have you come across the name 揽佬“Skai Isyourgod” online lately? Born in Huizhou, Guangdong province, “Skai Isyourgod” has risen to fame in ways few could have predicted. In just a few months, his monthly listeners on Spotify soared from 400,000 to 4.6 million, and his concerts—from London to Sydney—sold out in no time. And here's what makes it even more remarkable: he raps mostly in Mandarin and Cantonese. For years, many believed that language could be a barrier in global music, but he has shattered that myth entirely.
So what sets him apart? Unlike much of Western rap, which often revolves around wealth and materialism, his lyrics are frequently described as "spiritual" rather than "street." Nicknamed the "Rap Monk," he explores themes of philosophy and self-awareness in tracks like “Karma Code” and “Blueprint Supreme”. It's this rare fusion—ancient Chinese dialects woven into modern, hypnotic Memphis beats—that has struck a chord with listeners worldwide. He's proved that Chinese music has a powerful, distinctive voice—and honestly, that message has really hit home for us.
Last year, we managed to get tickets to his concert in Guangzhou. We still remember walking into that venue—the atmosphere was electric. Thousands of people, shouting lyrics in Cantonese and Mandarin, arms moving together like ocean waves. When he performed "Stacks from All Sides", the entire crowd erupted. We were shouting every word, even the ones we didn't fully understand. That night, something shifted inside us. We fell in love with Chinese-style rap—and we made a pact: we would create our own music. And so we began writing.
During lunch breaks, after school, in every spare moment—we were scribbling lyrics and experimenting with beats. We wanted to capture the same energy we'd felt at the concert, but with our own twist. So we set out to create our own rap song. We signed up for the Campus Top Ten Singers Competition and made it all the way to the finals. Our song fused campus life and our feelings with rap beats—a piece we called "Made in Zhongfu." Standing on that stage, under the bright lights, looking out at familiar faces, our hearts were racing. But the moment we started rapping, our fear disappeared. And when they announced we had won, we were completely stunned. Just a few weeks ago, we performed it again at the school opening ceremony. The applause of the crowd was unforgettable—a moment we'll carry with us.
Now, some of you might be thinking: why rap? Whatmakes it so special? For us, it's become more than just music. During those intense ten-minute breaks between classes, we'll start rapping—sometimes about rhyming English sentences, sometimes just silly stuff about the cafeteria food. The beats are catchy, the lyrics make people laugh, and before you know it, our classmates are all moved by the rhythm. In these final months before the big exam, stress is high. But those few minutes of shared rhythm and laughter make a difference. They lift the pressure and remind us we're not alone.
The rise of Skai Isyourgod teaches us something powerful. He doesn’t try to sound Western or tone down his roots. He stays true to himself—rapping in his own languages, about things that truly matter to him. And the world has taken notice. He has proved that our voice—in our language, with our stories—has the power to travel anywhere.
So here's what we've learned: never be afraid to create. Whether it's music, art, writing, or something else entirely—your voice deserves to be heard. Embrace where you come from, and don't hesitate to reimagine it, because in the space between tradition and innovation, that's where the real magic happens.
Thank you.
创作《Made in Zhongfu》,揽佬“Skai Isyourgod”给我们的启示
Skai Isyourgod
